The Eichholzmaar is one of the smaller maars in the Vulkaneifel. From the observation tower you have the best view over the maar, which is just 120 m in diameter and just 3 m at its deepest point.

It is unbelievable under what conditions people mined millstones here in the Middle Ages. The porous volcanic rock is popular because it does not become smooth when it is ground, but remains sharp-edged.

April 22, 2023,Vulkaneifel: Steffeln - Vulkangarten - Steffelner Drees - Eichholzmaar - Römische Funde bei Duppach

We made it 🤗
The circle is complete!
The stage from Steffeln to Gerolstein was also wet 💦joyful.
We had to battle through heavy rain and storms for the last 8 km.
The stage again had many scenic highlights, but we couldn't enjoy them all.
