Warnemünde Station Bridge (Old Strom Bridge)

Highlight • Bridge

The Warnemünde station bridge is the bridge over the Alter Strom and was completed in 1903 with a total length of 42 meters and a width of 7.10 meters. Until 1940 it was used as a swing bridge. Nowadays, the bridge is only used on special occasions as an attraction for locals and tourists.

It is located in the middle of the Alter Strom and therefore offers an excellent starting point for great photo opportunities and exploration tours in all directions in Warnemünde.

See and be seen: Fishing cutters and sailing boats, passenger ships and motor yachts rock on the water of the Alter Strom between the station bridge and the pier.

On some fishing cutters you can start a fishing tour, others are firmly moored at the jetty. On these there are fresh fish rolls and other goods typical of the Baltic Sea coast and Warnemünde.

The special ship in the 27.5 meter class was built in 1992 at the Lürssen shipyard in Bremen-Vegesack. It is named after the northern tip of the island of Rügen. The name of the daughter boat CASPAR is reminiscent of the painter Caspar David Friedrich. Before the ARKONA was relocated to Warnemünde in 2003, it was stationed in Sassnitz.

With the ARKONA, nine permanently employed and around 15 voluntary sea rescuers around foreman Karsten Waßner secure the sea area between Kühlungsborn and Wustrow with the busy sea routes to the Rostock seaports. The rescue cruiser is manned by four men around the clock and is ready for immediate use. In addition to ferries, cruise ships, cutters and other commercial vessels, there are also many sailing and motor yachts, as well as leisure and excursion boats, in the area.

The Warnemünde pier lights are two small lighthouses on the west and east pier of Warnemünde. As a lateral sign they refer to the entrance to the Unterwarnow coming from the Mecklenburg Bay.

Warnemünde Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

The so-called Teepott is a landmark in Warnemünde. Ulrich Müther, a civil engineer from the island of Rügen, designed the striking building with the curved roof. In the tea pot you will find restaurants and souvenir shops.

Right next to it is the almost 40 meter high lighthouse, another landmark of the Baltic Sea resort. It was put into operation in 1898. The lighthouse in Warnemünde is shown on the poster for the film "Shutter Island" with Leonardo Dicaprio - but nothing more. Because the Hollywood film was not shot on the Baltic Sea.

From Easter to the beginning of October the tower is open to visitors daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is 2 euros.

If Scandlines even cancels the Denmark ferry, a "breeze" seems to be blowing.
I had reorganized my work a bit so that I could let the wind blow in my face. But since he was coming from the stern and not over the side of the mole, I stayed dry.

The finally sunny weather is being used extensively today... and we are also thinking of those who are currently forced to sit in it.

First sniff the sea air, let the wind and water blow around your nose.

The tour was for you, dear Steffili. Get well soon for you!🤗
I'm looking forward to the next tour...

Today after work we spontaneously drove to Warnemünde 🌊⚓️🚆. Tomorrow we want to go for a nice walk on the beach, but this evening we want to let the wind blow around our noses🤗
It's wonderful to be home🌊🥰

Of course, a tour to Warnemünde is a must when visiting the Baltic Sea. From the parking lot at the train station, the path led to the old train station bridge, from which you have a very nice view of the harbor basin. Along the harbor promenade to the western mole lighthouse. To cool down for the dogs we went …
