Saint-Vulfran Collegiate Church, Abbeville

Highlight • Religious Site

The construction of the church began on June 7, 1488. By August 31, it was clear that funding would be a problem, so construction halted for a time. On April 4, 1520, Jean Crétel of Tours-en-Vimeu was put in charge of the work. The nave was under construction until 1539

Château de Flixecourt

Highlight • Castle

It was Jean-Baptiste Saint, patron of jute weaving in the Nièvre valley and director of the Saint-Frères manufactory, who saw the construction of the château in 1880 as proof of his social success. He died in 1880 and his widow Stéphanie Zambaux bought the land and carried out the construction.

Around the Long lock

Highlight • Structure

The private property of Long, open to visitors, is located in the heart of the Somme between Abbeville and Amiens. Classified as a historic monument, the building, dating from the first half of the 18th century, features architecture in the Louis XV style, made entirely of pink bricks and white stones.
The Château du Long is shaped like a rectangular central body with a mansard roof, inside which are very beautiful sculptures and paintings by Huet. The site is surrounded by a magnificent park of about twenty hectares, with French-style shrubs, greenhouses and a listed washhouse, an 18th-century dovecote, an orangery and a cooler, a six-hectare pond, outbuildings or a four-hectare wood. Very beautiful statues also mark the alleys that invite you to stroll. (France-Voyage)

The Marais d’Epagnette is characterized by vast areas of wet meadows and low-lying marshes, maintained for decades by extensive grazing. The non-grazed areas of the Grand Marais d’Epagne are dominated by vegetation of tall grasses mixed with reeds (reedbeds), progressively colonized by willow thickets. Not only do these significant open (non-wooded) areas offer unique landscapes, but furthermore, the diversity of the environments and the management carried out to date allow for the expression of exceptional flora and fauna, bringing together numerous protected, rare, and threatened species at the scale of Picardy or even France. Numerous uses – and users! – coexist in the marsh (grazing, hunting, fishing, walking, mowing, wood cutting…), a significant challenge to reconcile all these practices, while preserving this exceptional natural heritage. The Conservatoire d’espaces naturels has been working since 2008 on the preservation of this site in partnership with the municipality, the Conservatoire de l’espace littoral et des rivages lacustres, and private owners. These 150 ha of marsh are crossed by a path that allows visitors to see, throughout the seasons, the Fritillaria pintade, a protected plant, or the White Stork.
