A stretch of road on the Pasubio massif, in the Vicenza Pre-Alps, the Strada degli Eroi was built following the First World War to provide the summit area of the mountain with a safe access route. The actual Road of Heroes is the approximately two kilometer long stretch that connects the Giuseppe d'Havet Gallery to the Achille Papa refuge: this stretch is in a certain sense the appetizer.

Generale D'Havet Tunnel

General Achille Papa Refuge

The Rifugio Generale Achille Papa is a refuge on the upper edge of the Val Canale at 1928 meters. It was built after the First World War and uses buildings from a former Italian barrack camp. Since then it has been rebuilt several times, today the building is quite imposing and renovated according to sustainable criteria.

Meanwhile, I thank Antonio Mennella of the splendid Parma-Reggio gravel group of which I am also part for the track🙏.....beautiful tour....first 20 km all asphalt in fantastic landscapes....then 10/12 uphill some very "crunchy" scabs as Luca Foroni would say👋👋👋 and challenging 💦💦💦 with other splendid views.....arrival at the papa refuge....2 sandwiches and 2 birrozze🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺and then 10 more km of descent …
