June 27, 2023,Um den Riffelsee zur Riffelseehütte - Panoramaweg zur Taschachalm
Today we took the Riffelseebahn up to the Riffelsee.

A beautiful, family-friendly hiking trail leads around the Riffelsee.

After a short detour to the Riffelseehütte, we headed down the valley on a panorama trail.

The first part goes along the raging outflow of the lake and then leads down the valley via serpentines.

Today the path went steeply again on the sunny side over the Hirschtal up to the Rifflsee. But it was nice because we were almost alone in the Hirschtal (not so frequented because it goes up very steeply)

We were shocked when, after getting out at the mountain station, thick clouds of fog only allowed us to see the lake and the mountains. After 10 minutes, the sun came out and the snow-covered mountain peaks above the glacier-green lake left us in awe. The comfortable route around the picturesquely situated highest mountain lake in Austria (2,232 m) was …

CAUTION!
On Tuesday, August 10th, 2021, the routes from the mountain station to the valley station and the route from the Riffelseehütte to the valley station were closed due to the risk of falling rocks. We had to walk across the Taschach hut.

From the car park you can either start the tour along the farm track to the lake or go the other way up through the forest. Everything is well signposted and there are lots of people walking around the lake. The tour is also suitable for dogs.
