Gazos Creek Road

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Gazos Creek Road is a narrow country road that follows along the bottom of a cute little canyon with virtually no traffic. A wooded road ride probably couldn't be prettier than this stretch even if it took place in an artificially landscaped setting.

Cloverdale Road

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Initially, Cloverdale Road throws a few set of climbs at you. For almost half a mile, this stretch of the ride maintains an average grade of 7 or 8 percent and follows it with one last steep (but very short) burst that seems to reach at least 15% grade. As you approach Butano State Park, though, the road becomes mostly flat and starts following a small, flat-bottomed valley.

Butano Peak

This peak is the highest point of Butano State Park, sharing its name with the park itself. If you're cycling on Butano Fire Road, you'll pass by it. As an interesting fact, the name "butano" originates from how early Californians referred to a beverage made from the horn of a bull or another animal, although other sources suggest it may also have a Native American origin.

China Grade is a 719-foot peak within the Santa Cruz Mountains. There is a road called China Grade Road that leads to the summit.

Ocean View Summit

The summit, located just east of the road, offers rewarding views and is accessible via several trails and routes, most of which will take you through paths between giant redwood trees and Douglas fir trees. It is a beautiful olfactory experience.
