Albbruck-Dogern Hydroelectric Dam

The weir dams up the Rhine by around 10 meters at the level of the towns of Dogern (Germany) and Leibstadt (Switzerland). It has five weir openings, each 25 meters wide. Two openings are on the German side and three on the Swiss side. The shooters are raised or lowered using the electrically driven winches in the service bridge. By completely raising the gates at four openings, the highest flood water of around 5,200 m³/s can be removed.

The dam is located around 700 meters above the Leibstadt train station, where the Rhine used to split and flow around an Au island. The five-gate weir closes off the entire southern main course of the Rhine, with the three southern openings on Swiss territory and the two northern openings on German territory.
