Restaurant England (Nordstrand)

Highlight • Restaurant

England is (in this case) not an island and not the last stop before it, but part of the North Frisian municipality of Nordstrand. According to tradition, the name should derive from the "narrow country" through which it was difficult to navigate. Because in 1657 a port was built on the Siel near England. Through the Engländer Loch, a creek in the mud flats, a connection via the Heverstrom to Husum was possible. The English port existed for more than 200 years, only after the embankment of the Morsum-Kooges in 1866 did the English settlement move into the interior of the island of Nordstrand. A new harbour, Süderhafen, was built on the Morsum-Koog dyke at the mouth of the Engländer Loch in 1866/67.
There are hardly any traces left of the English port today, only a depression to the east of the settlement between the Engländer Loch and the dyke of the Elisabeth-Sophien-Koogs gives an idea of the location.

Here the North Sea cycle path leads over Nordstrand. Nice view of the marsh.

The Church of St. Theresia on Nordstrand was built in 1662.
20 years after the devastating Burchardi flood of 1634, Dutch Catholic dike builders came to Nordstrand to re-dike the island.
The area was Evangelical Lutheran, but the dike builders received religious freedom for their faith and built the St. Theresia Church.
As the church became increasingly dilapidated in the 19th century, the islanders built a new building on its original foundations, which was completed in 1887.
The St. Theresia Church contains a cathedral treasure and cathedral relics.
The cross outside above the vestibule to the church has been there since 1662.
Inside the church, the apse with the starry sky always captivates people. Gravestones with interesting inscriptions, the oldest from 1663, commemorate community members from that time.
Many small details, such as a pelican or a mysterious chest, await you when you enter the island cathedral with open eyes.

Fuhlehörn Beach

Highlight • Beach

Here is one of the few sandy beaches on North Beach. There are toilets on the land side. Watt walks or muddy rides by coach start here.

Pharisäerhof

Highlight • Cafe

The Pharisee farm is a must. There are very delicious cakes and a great Pharisee - a little chill in the garden and the day went well.
