Sculpture Trail Welchenhausen

Highlight • Structure

In the summer of 2019, nine sculptors from Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany worked for four weeks during the 'International Sculptor Symposium' in the open-air studio on the German-Belgian border bridge in Welchenhausen.
The results of their work in sandstone, steel and basalt now flank the Werdenhausen Sculpture Route. In their contrast and interaction, art and culture create an impressive KultOur experience here in the heart of Europe.
A total of 10 sculptures by 9 artists from 3 countries can be admired along the approximately 8 kilometer long path across the national borders from Stoubach (B) via Welchenhausen (D) to Ouren (B) to Lieler (L).
The sculpture route starts directly at the border bridge in Stupbach with the impressive sandstone sculpture “Dreiländereck-David” by Susanne Paucker. The other sculptures are on the road to Werdenhausen, in Welchenhausen, in Ouren and on the heights overlooking the Ourtal. Creativity, precision and perseverance characterize the works of art.

Altar and Madonna figures

Highlight • Religious Site

Shortly after a curve and somewhat hidden behind a hedge, there is a small open altar in front of a rock. Above the altar in the rock and a few meters in front of it are two figures of the Madonna.

St. Peter and Paul Church (Ouren)

Highlight • Religious Site

The church, known as "St. Peter's Church", is striking from the outside with its curved dome above the octagonal choir. This mid-18th century building faces the heavy west tower, the core of which is apparently of Romanesque origin. The entrance with round arches is preceded by a low hall with a stained glass window. It bathes the church with its Romanesque traces and rococo decorations in a contemporary light, without being in disharmony with the interior.

The Our

Highlight • River

The Our has its source in the High Fens in Belgium at an altitude of 643 m near Manderfeld. It flows south and first forms the border between Belgium and Germany, later that between Germany and Luxembourg. The Our crosses the small medieval town of Vianden and, after 98 kilometers, flows into the Sauer near Wallendorf. Source: rivieresetfleuves.eu/de/l-our
