Views of the Torre de la Higuera

Highlight • Monument

The Torre de la Higuera, also known as the "Matalascañas Stone", is a beacon tower located on the beach of Matalascañas, in the municipality of Almonte, province of Huelva. This tower was built in 1577 during the reign of Philip II as part of a coastal defence system against attacks by corsairs and pirates.

The tower suffered significant damage during the Lisbon earthquake in 1755, causing it to tip over and remain in its current position. Today, it is an iconic symbol of the area and has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest since 1985.
