The first time I came here it was filled with crushed rocks so you could ride over it (1" at the deepest point). seems like every time I come back the water level rises. The most recent time the water level was at least 5" deep. Luckily, there were two 2x4 wide bridges spanning the length but they were in poor condition and partially floating in the water. Made the crossing super sketchy.

Just as the name suggests, this is the southerly of two main trails in Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. Expect to share it with mountain bikers and runners.

This incredibly biodiverse preserve is home to hundreds of species, many of them rare or endangered. Watch for everything from mule deer and bobcats to Pacific tree frogs and poison oak.
