Celtic Cross at Lamorna Cove

Highlight • Monument

This cross, made of durable granite, stands alone on the cliffs and has withstood wind and weather for a century and a half. The design of this memorial cross, with a large circle that encloses the intersection of the longitudinal and transverse beams, is typical of the tradition of such small sacred monuments, which is influenced by Celtic culture.

Penberth Cove

Highlight • Beach

Penberth Cove is a tiny and unspoiled fishing hamlet that’s home to a pebble beach. The Penberth River flows down through the wooded valley and village into the cove. The whole spot is a real hidden gem along this section of the coastline.

Lamorna Cove

Highlight • Beach

Lamorna is about half way between Porthcurno and Penzance so is a good place to stop for lunch. There is a cafe with a good range of food and plenty of outdoor seating. We couldn’t spot any toilets at Lamorna though so just bear that in mind.

Kemyel Crease Nature Reserve

Kemyel Crease Nature Reserve is a small, sheltered woodland that slopes down into the sea. Monterey pines and Monterey cypress grow in the woodland, and the reserve is rich in fungi, including the magnificent earth star fungus.

Mousehole Village and Harbour

Highlight • Settlement

The fishing village of Mousehole has narrow, bustling streets filled with small shops, galleries, restaurants, and cottages built from finely grained Lamorna granite. Dylan Thomas described the village as the loveliest in England — but many Cornish people would dispute that this part of the world can even be classed as England! The village has a thriving art scene as artists come to work amid the picturesque landscape.

Mousehole Harbour

Highlight • Settlement

The harbor of Mousehole is very pleasant to walk along. A nice break from a bike ride.
