Resiutta Station

Highlight • Rest Area

The Resiutta station was a stop on the Pontebbana railway, which connected Udine to Tarvisio. It was decommissioned in 1995 and then renovated in 2023. It is now a refreshment point for cycle tourists who travel along the Alpe Adria cycle route.

I drove it away from Tarvisio to Venzone 2 years ago with work colleagues! Dream day and, as I said, quite fresh in the tunnel! Stopping at the old train station in Malborghet is recommended, as you can see and marvel at the characteristic style buildings of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy!
A stop can also be recommended in the former Chiusaforte train station!
If you drive there from Austria, you can take the MICOTRA train back to Villach in the evening! Timetable can be seen on the ÖBB website!

Currently, the last tunnel sections on this fantastic railway cycle path.
I've now also ridden the "newest" section to Carnia in September 2025. 👍🙏🚲🌝

Moggio Udinese Abbey and Stone Bridge

Highlight • Religious Site

Moggio Udinese lies at 341 meters above sea level and is surrounded by the high peaks of the Julian Alps and the Carnic Alps. The foundation of the village dates back to Roman times. Attractions include the Abbey of San Gallo and the palace with dungeons and medieval tower in Moggio di Sopra. In the northwestern hinterland of Moggio Udinese in the middle of the Carnic Alps are the three mountain villages Moggessa di Quà, Moggessa di Là and Stavoli, all of which are car-free to this day. Since there are no access roads, the old system of mule tracks is still in use. Particularly attractive are the narrow streets of the villages, where the farmhouses concentrate in a small space. Also the nature reserve Riserva Natural Val Alba has its charm. Nature lovers will get their money's worth in the region.

A short but very beautiful ride. I saw scenic spots and unexplored hamlets on the opposite bank of the Fella River. All asphalt climbs at 12-13%, narrow roads with equally steep descents, and sections over streams with stone-paved bottoms.
