Railway Bridge over the Leda

Highlight • Bridge

Here inclined cyclists and hikers cross the Leda in a somewhat spectacular way. Especially when a train thunders by next to you, your pulse rises. The bridge is also a good vantage point of the Leda barrage on the one hand and the last few meters of the river before it flows into the Ems on the other.
From here it goes over the bridge to the old town to Leer or to the Jann-Berghaus-Brücke over the Ems into the Rheiderland and to the south along the bike path along the railway to Ihrhove.
The country road runs across this, which leads us along a wonderful dike route up the Ems, past Esklum and Mitling MArk to Papenburg and the Meyer shipyard.

Mitling-Mark Windmill

Highlight • Monument

Cycling east from the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg to Leer along the Ems via the dyke route, after almost five kilometers you reach the place Mitling-Mark, which was first mentioned in documents in 1436. It is an invigorating feeling when, after a bend in the river, you see the Mitling-Marker mill from 1843 for the first time in a broad panorama of the dyke and marshland. The surrounding old buildings as well as the overall atmosphere of the picturesque village give the location of this one-story gallery Dutchman with codend and louvered wings a very special charm. There was a post mill here as early as the 17th century, which can still be admired in Papenburg on the “Wiek”.

The restoration of the Mitling-Marker mill testifies to loving thoroughness. Not far from the mill in the village is the Fährhaus inn with a terrace (komoot.de/highlight/495275), where you can take a break with coffee and cake or a full meal.

Coldam–Weener Dike Cycle Path

Highlight • Cycleway

After the passage at the Jann-Berghaus-Brücke, the dike leads us past Coldam with the art center, two churches, sluices and lots of sheep. The route is well developed and pleasant to drive. Well, in between the sheep barriers have to be driven through again and again, so narrow, angled passages with bar grating, as well as the lock at the port in Weener. So don't look down bluntly, otherwise you'll hit a gate. Otherwise: On the left the dike, on the right the view of the vastness of the Rheiderland. After around 10 kilometers you come to Weener with its beautiful harbor, before you continue at full throttle to Papenburg.

Jann-Berghaus Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The view over the Ems is always worthwhile. The trip to Emden through the Rheiderland and with the ferry from Ditzum is nicer.

June 17, 2022,Emsradweg Tag 4 und Ende 😉👋.
Last day on our Emsradtour. Today only a short stage from Papenburg to Emden was on the plan. In the morning we visited the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. After we were described as weirdos by a bar waitress on the first evening with regard to our tour, today we were given the word "stupid" at the entrance...😂😂😂. They all saw …

As a retiree, you have to be flexible, so we took advantage of the beautiful weather in the north and cycled the Ems Cycle Path from Emden to the source of the Ems. The day started early at 5:00 a.m. We had to allow extra time at the train station in Solingen because the elevator was being renovated. Luckily, a …
