View of the Schwarzenbach Dam

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Schwarzenbach Dam is the most important structure of the Rudolf Fettweis Pumped Storage Power Plant. Completed in 1926, the dam collects water on the eastern slope of the rain-rich main ridge of the northern Black Forest. Water from the Murg River is also pumped into the reservoir, as the facility serves to balance the energy supply. The gravity dam is 400 meters long and 65 meters high. The lake is over two kilometers long.

From the Engagement Rock you have a wonderful view over the Murg Valley near Schönmünzach. Of course there is a romantic story about the Engagement Rock: The daughter of a wealthy feudal farmer promised to marry a poor forest worker here, against all odds.

Betrothal Rock

Highlight • Viewpoint

According to an old folk legend, the daughter of a rich farmer and a poor forest worker made a marriage promise up here around 250 years ago. Since then, the rock with its great panorama has only been known as an engagement rock.

Super nice tour 😎 with impressive buildings 💪... the first 60 minutes are challenging - so not much breakfast in the morning

I ran this stage in the best late summer weather. The first hour is pretty tough, as it is constantly uphill. After that, the route is much more balanced with the highlights of the Schwarzenbach Dam and the views of the Murg Valley and the side valleys.

Komoot did not broadcast the actual recorded tour. In reality, the route had 100 vertical meters more, even according to the description. Anyway, it was still very nice.
The slope of the hiking trail from Forbach up to the height was very steep and therefore violent, the rest was pleasant.
It is nice that the Murgleiter leads past Murgbahn train …

Walking at a leisurely pace in the rain-free and pleasant weather today, today we went to the 3rd stage of the "Murgleiter". Another nice tour where hiking is just fun. The second section to the area above Schönmünzach was not quite as adventurous as the path was a bit barren ... but you could still enjoy nature.

Early in the morning we took the train to Forbach, for the third stage of the Murgleiter.
After crossing the Murg on the old wooden bridge, we went straight through the town. At the end of town, like every morning, things started going up. It was a good 300 m up to the Schwarzenbach dam after about 4 km.

Today was a wonderful day of hiking with 2 friends. And this time my dog "Snoopy" wasn't with us.

No longer by our side, but forever in our hearts 😢🙏🏽🤍🌈🤍 😢

The original route is currently closed due to a major EnBW construction site. Since the detour was also closed, we followed the original route. The construction site is easily avoided. The highlight of the tour is the impressive dam wall of the Schwarzenbach Dam, which can be admired from below. We took the tram back to Forbach.
