View of Regensburg's Stone Bridge

Highlight • Viewpoint

If you are short on time while passing through, I recommend crossing the Stone Bridge for a short while - there are also nice places to stop for a bite to eat on the other side of the Danube - and admiring the city panorama from the bridge.

Regensburg Old Town

Highlight • Historical Site

Regensburg has one of the most beautiful old towns in Bavaria, if not Germany. Magnificent historical buildings, great alternative shops (not just the mega chains) and great restaurants, some directly on the Danube!

Next to the cathedral is the Stone Bridge the most famous landmark of Regensburg. The construction of the bridge was started in 1135 and thus the Stone Bridge is today the oldest completely preserved bridge in Germany. Meanwhile, it is reserved for pedestrians and especially on summer evenings here is a nice atmosphere.

View of Regensburg Cathedral

Highlight • Viewpoint

When visiting Regensburg you definitely shouldn't miss it: A masterpiece of medieval architecture in Germany - The Stone Bridge.
Along with Regensburg Cathedral, it is the city's most important landmark and was certainly one of the reasons why Regensburg was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Stone Bridge, which connects the old Bavarian district of Stadtamhof with Regensburg's old town, was considered a real wonder of the world in the Middle Ages. It was built in just 11 years, probably between 1135 and 1146. The busy trade traffic of Regensburg, an important economic center in the Middle Ages, required the permanent river crossing. So the council and citizens decided to build the building. For almost 800 years, until 1935, it remained the only bridge that served as a reliable Danube crossing in Regensburg and the surrounding area. The impressive structure spans the river in round stone arches at around 300 meters.

Regensburg — UNESCO World Heritage Site

Highlight • Historical Site

In the High Middle Ages, Regensburg was a political center of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and a flourishing European trading center. The old town is an exceptional example of an intact medieval trading town (inclusion criterion iv). In 2006 UNESCO added the old town of Regensburg with Stadtamhof to the World Heritage List.
