Historic Harbour of Buxtehude

Highlight • Historical Site

The harbor was once the heart of Buxtehude. The Hanseatic city was the first city to be built systematically around a central harbor basin. Cargo ships anchored in the harbor basin located in front of the city.

Estebrügge Swing Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

A picturesque swing bridge in Estebrügge. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it in action. Luckily, I didn't have to wait. :-) The narrow bridge doesn't allow two-way traffic. It's lined with beautiful, old, colorful half-timbered houses.

Old fruit farms line the paths along the Este, some farms have very stately entrance portals and many facades have been sensationally restored and shine splendidly.

After repairing my bike, we rode to a fruit farm in the Altes Land region today. The light, fresh breeze didn't bother us. It was still fun.

I've ridden to the Altes Land countless times. It's always beautiful. Especially now, when the fruit trees are in full bloom. Short stop at Herzapfelhof to buy vitamins.

Nice weather and apple harvest in the Altes Land. There are over 11 million fruit trees here, around 90% of which are apples.

I quickly discarded the plan to count the apples, because in 2021 around 291,000 tons of apples were harvested in the Altes Land. One wonders who eats them all or drinks them pressed as apple juice.

Bright red everywhere and the apple harvest in the Altes Land is in full swing. The little tour was really fun in the midday sun.

Nice to have the Altes Land right on your doorstep. Today the route led me to the fruit farm in Jork. Nice to drive. The old country still looks very bare at the moment. But that will change again in a few weeks when the cherry trees are in bloom.

Today's tour was more about photography than cycling. I drove through the orchards where the apples are already waiting to be picked. Always nice to see and photograph. From there we went on to the ice cream parlor in Jork and back to Buxtehude. A small tour, but it was fun again.

Short tour in the afternoon. The most beautiful route to Jork leads through the fruit area.
