Lauter Valley Cycle Path: Southernmost Section

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Very flat and wide bike path. However, not suitable for road bikes, as the surface is made of very fine gravel. The Lauter River flows by next door. All in all, very beautiful! 😊

Update at the beginning of 2022: Now that everything here has been paved, it's now also ideal for road cyclists. A beautiful, flat bike path. A bit busier at peak times, but being considerate goes a long way.

Otterberg Town Hall

Highlight • Historical Site

The baroque building was erected in 1753. The year in Roman script is carved above the portal. In the beautiful tower there is a bell that used to ring when there was a fire.

Jewish Cemetery Mehlingen

Highlight • Historical Site

The Jewish cemetery in Mehlingen was opened in the 18th century. One of the first to be buried was probably David Levi from Sembach, who died in 1786. The Mehlinger Friedhof was an association cemetery for the Jewish communities in Otterberg, Mehlingen, Sembach, Frankenstein and Kaiserslautern. Even before and during the Nazi era, the cemetery was desecrated several times (see report below from 1923) and finally almost completely destroyed, then restored and later heavily damaged again during maneuvers on the former training area. In the meantime the community has restored it and fenced it in. The cemetery on parcels 294 and 295 covers 17.10 ares (of 38.80 ares of the two plots in total).

Shaolin Temple Otterberg

Highlight • Religious Site

A Shaolin temple, which is just outside of Otterberg at the Weinbrunnerhof. Not only are Shaolin novices trained here, but guests can also learn about various areas of Buddhism here (source: Wiki).
The temple is very inconspicuous next to the narrow, hardly used county road.

Today I wanted to test the ADFC after-work tour on my bike. I ran it with the dog in the winter. The main question was: Are there fallen trees after the snowfall? It's easy to cycle, it was fun. 😀
