Floßgraben near Aue

Highlight • Structure

The Floßgraben bei Aue (also called Floßgraben bei Schlema, Auer Floßgraben, Schneeberger Floßgraben) is a canal with a length of approx. 15.3 km and a height difference between the beginning and end of approx. 70 meters. It crosses, among other things, the corridors of Albernau, Aue and Bad Schlema. The raft ditch was built in the middle of the 16th century and was used, among other things, to raft firewood and lumber to supply the huts and mines in Oberschlema and the town of Schneeberg in the Erzgebirge.
The Floßgraben begins in Albernau at the "Rechenhaus" (near Bockau) and is fed by the water of the Zwickauer Mulde river. It leads through the picturesque landscape of the Ore Mountains with forests, meadows, rocks... and at the end flows into the Schlemabach in the spa park of Bad Schlema (Saxony). The Floßgraben is now considered a monument and is one of the special sights in the Ore Mountains....

Floßgraben Aue-Schlema

Highlight • Structure

They are everywhere in the Ore Mountains, these moats that have led the water to mining sites over long distances with minimal gradients. These trenches are hundreds of years old and were a surveying masterpiece at the time.

Here is not only a bridge for cyclists and pedestrians, no, the water has its own bridge here too.
