Kohlbach Riverside Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The hiking path from the Helmbachweiher to the Naturfreundehaus Lambrecht is beautiful and runs parallel to the babbling Kohlbach with the hiking trail "Pfälzer Hüttensteig". This hiking trail is largely located in a deeply cut and therefore shady (cool) valley: particularly pleasant in summer, but still with some damp spots; At other times of the year and after / in rainy weather, it is less recommendable because it is very muddy!
For cyclists there is a forestry path that runs on the other side of the Helmbach.

Kohlbrunnen Spring (Ritterstein No. 99)

Highlight • Natural Monument

This is one of over 300 knight's stones of the Palatinate Forest Association. He points out a spring that pushes up water from below (in a small pond) and is located on the Kohlbach.

"The name of the fountain refers to the former charcoal burning operation in the Palatinate Forest."
Source (quoted verbatim): kuladig.de Objektansicht/KLD-327263

Please note: This is NOT the source of the Kohlbach. The Kohlbach rises 1 - 2 km south of the Nature Friends House "Lambrecht"!

Wooden boardwalk at Helmbachweiher

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

An artificially created, very idyllic pond in the middle of the forest (on the road from Helmbach to Iggelbach), which was created by damming the Kohlbach in 1970. Source: badeseen.rlp-umwelt.de/servlet/is/1155
This small forest swimming lake is fed by the cold and crystal clear water of the Kohlbach. Its outflow flows into the Helmbach at the dam (on the street side).

There is a long wooden walkway with benches, a large lawn and a nice kiosk with a small selection of restaurants. - Dogs are not allowed to swim here!

In an attempt to escape the heat a little, we ended up with Baratwurst with Saumagen / Flammkuchen and Radler 😃

At the beginning of my tour I actually wanted to approach the pulpit rock; but some construction workers thwarted my plans. Heavy machines, excavators, trucks, cable drums and a long ditch lined "my hiking trail". The men said there was no way I could walk past ... and they took myself very seriously ...

Today, after far too long, we're out and about again with friends and our four-legged friends 🐕🐕🐕

Pug-related 🐶 along the forest highway, because little senior "Oskar" often wants to be driven in the dog stroller 😁

Coffee and cake, a little reward for the short walk 😋

It was bathing weather this afternoon. So we went to the Helmbachweiher.
The beautiful path directly on the babbling Kohlbach up to the rustic Friends of Nature house is really to our liking. On the way there was a very light thunderstorm. I had forgotten my rain jacket. Never mind, I was grateful for the refreshment. Joshi was already wet …

This evening Juliet and I hiked from Helmbachweiher to the Christmas market at Nfh Lambrecht in Kohlbachtal. This was officially opened with a torchlight hike. In addition to mulled wine, bratwurst and vegetarian chili, there was a beautifully designed tent tunnel with stalls. Swedish fires created a cozy atmosphere. A beautiful evening with a hike through the dark forest.

On Sunday we took a short tour from the Helmbachweiher to the Naturfreundehaus Kohlbachtal, where there was a Christmas market this weekend that was very well attended.

In front of the hut there was a mulled wine stand and freshly prepared food. The tents with the stands were connected to each other so that you could stroll and shop comfortably, …
