View of Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse

There is a great view of the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse from the North Ocean Boulevard. When the lighthouse was first built in the early 20th century, it was found to be the cause of wildfires in the Everglades. When the light was stopped during daylight, it would focus light inland and start a fire. The lighthouse was altered to prevent this from happening. It is open for private tours once a month.

Sanborn Square

Highlight • Structure

In 1953, the owner of the land, Eleanor Sanborn, allowed the town‘s annual holiday celebrations to take place in this square. In 1955, she donated the land to the city in memory of her husband, Boca Raton part time resident Dr. William E. Sanborn, a wealthy Detroit dentist. The park became the city’s town square, hosting numerous gatherings. Today you can rent it for under $400 if you are not a resident.
