Connector Junction

Highlight • Trail

At this point, you'll encounter a junction that links to a connector trail. Here, you have the choice to stay on or leave the Chester Creek Trail, or transition onto the connector trail that connects to both the Ship Creek Trail and Campbell Creek Bike Trail.

University Lake Park

Highlight • Lake

You may see a lot of happy, loose dogs around here, because nowadays University Lake is an off-leash dog park. It's still a lovely green space bordering on some of the city's more popular commuter and leisure trails, though.

Campbell Creek Greenbelt Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Follow the Campbell Creek through Anchorage's neighborhoods and lovely parks. The trail stretches 7.5 miles from the university campus lake to Diamond Blvd and Victor Rd intersection.

Roadside trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Although the Campbell Creek Trail crosses many roads, those crossings are almost all via overpasses or underpasses — and the trail never lingers for very long beside the road. Except for here. This stretch of roadside trail, when combined with a street-level crossing just to the south, is necessary for linking the eastern and western parts of the Campbell Creek Trail, each on different sides of busy Lake Otis Boulevard.

Waldron Lake

Highlight • Lake

This pretty lake feels surprisingly remote, given that it's smack in the middle of Alaska's largest city. Happily, the trail is paved so you don't have to stop to take in the views — unless you want to.

Wildlife viewing deck

Highlight • Viewpoint

If you want a break, this pretty little deck is a nice place to rest and look for wildlife. But honestly, your odds of seeing wildlife here probably aren't that much better than when you're running along the trail, because most of the Campbell Creek Trail is surrounded by dense greenbelt.

Taku Lake

Highlight • Lake

Taku Lake is a real urban gem in Anchorage. Keep an eye out for the river otters that live in the lake, and sometimes draw photographers in long lenses. You might want to keep your dog on a leash, too; the otters are said to sometimes gang-rush dogs that get too close to them.

Campbell Creek Trail (Dowling to Lake Otis)

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This section of paved multi-use trail runs from Dowling Road to Lake Otis Boulevard. But when taken as a whole, the Campbell Creek Trail runs northeast/southwest through almost the entirety of Anchorage.
