Bruneck is the only town in South Tyrol named after its founder, Prince-Bishop Bruno von Kirchberg. Located at the confluence of the Ahr and Rienz, Bruneck was first mentioned in documents in 1256 AD. Today we wanted to start right from the hotel and did a lovely loop in the Pustertal Valley. It still adds up to some elevation gain, especially if you sneak up the Sonnenstrasse road.
The road through the Moarbachtal Valley, which branches off from Ehrenburg, is also highly recommended.
