Ferry Terminal at the End of Lido di Venezia

Highlight • Rest Area

End of the road in Lido di Venezia at a very quiet ferry terminal. I was alone here at lunchtime. If you have the time, the tour is worth the end of the island. But because of the tour, not because of the destination.

Ponte Caneva (Chioggia)

Highlight • Bridge

Also called Ponte Magazèn di Vigo, it probably owes its name to a winery (càneva, in the dialect of Chioggia) that stood in its vicinity. Among the people, however, the Ponte del Crocifisso was also called, to remember a large wooden crucifix, which lies under the arcades of Palazzo Mascheroni, enclosed in a glass niche and which can still be admired today. The bridge was first built in wood, after which it was rebuilt in baked stone in 1721 and retouched in 1741; it was finally built in masonry, with brick walls and handrails and steps in Istrian stone, while the flooring is in trachyte masegni, between 1759 and 1764, by the mayor Lorenzo Memmo.

View of the Vena Canal

Highlight • Bridge

The Canal Vena is the most picturesque and vital waterway in Chioggia, often described as the city's "Grand Canal". What makes it unique are its nine bridges, each with its own history and appearance, connecting the side foundations and allowing passage between the alleys.
The most majestic is undoubtedly the Ponte di Vigo, located at the northern end of the canal, towards the lagoon. Built of marble in 1685, it represents the monumental gateway to the city: with its imposing staircase and elegant decorations, it offers a spectacular view that ranges from the canal to the nearby island of Pellestrina.
The other eight bridges, such as the Ponte di San Giacomo or the Ponte Caneva, follow one another along the route, offering postcard-worthy glimpses between moored boats and historic markets. These passages are not just architectural structures, but the beating heart of Chioggia life, where the Venetian atmosphere blends with the authenticity of the fishing village.

Lido San Nicolò Car Ferry

Highlight • Rest Area

By bike you have to continue from Lido di Venezia with the car ferry, as you are not allowed to Venice. The pier is about 1 km north of the large dock in the center. You can take the ferry between the islands directly past Venice to the pier Tronchetto.
