Sotteville-sur-Mer

Highlight • Other

Sotteville-sur-Mer is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region of France. It has 388 inhabitants (1999). The town is part of the Dieppe district.
No fewer than 231 steps provide access to the beach, which is lined with high chalk cliffs. A wooden staircase was built in 1890 to allow fishermen to reach the beach more easily. They built huts in the rocks next to the staircase. It was later fitted with rails so that horses and donkeys could pull carts filled with pebbles up. During the Second World War, the Nazis dynamited this staircase. It was rebuilt in 1954.

Véloroute du Lin

Highlight • Cycleway

The many flax fields can be admired along the way with that characteristic periwinkle blue color, but only in June, when it is in full bloom. The flax cycle route has many other very pleasant aspects when you travel it: first of all an impeccable asphalt, many places to rest, a sea air, and the assured calm of a road without any traffic, because you follow an old railway line completely renovated into a cycle path.

Quiberville Beach

Highlight • Other

Bordered by the promenade dressed in its beach cabins from April, the long pebble beach reveals a vast expanse of sand at low tide to enjoy swimming. Do not forget to raise your head to enjoy the splendid spectacle offered by the cliffs! On one side the whiteness which gave its name to this coast, the Alabaster Coast, and on the other the Cap d'Ailly where the brown of the clay is mixed.
