July 20, 2025,Rheinsteig | Etappe 12 - von Lahnstein nach Filsen
After a good breakfast ☕️ at the Waldhaus, we set off again. First, the Rheinsteig trail led us through the Aspichklamm, which pales in comparison to the Ruppertsklamm. 😆

The first highlight of the day soon followed: a rocky path that definitely gave us the feeling of being in the high mountains. ⛰ Ropes provided support in some places during …

After a relaxed forest hike from Filsen via Osterspai and the Dinkelholdertal valley, there's a good portion of Middle Ages at the end, because a visit to Marksburg, the only never-destroyed castle on the Middle Rhine, is very worthwhile! In idyllic Braubach, the stage ends in a relaxed manner...

The Rheinsteig long-distance hiking trail - always unbeatably beautiful and convincing, even if you have already walked it in stages and know it well.
This tour leads from Lahnstein a.d. Höhe to Filsen.
The paths are very well marked, well-maintained and safe. They lead through a variety of mixed forests, wide meadows, fields and vineyards.
Often only a narrow path …

Absolutely fantastic stage of the Rheinsteig!!!

Be sure to take the parallel route, the "Osterspaier Langhalsweg" (Germany's Most Beautiful Hiking Trail 2024), as soon as it's signposted. This trail offers additional beautiful views, a Rhine swing, and a "panorama heart."
As usual, the access points are accessible by public transport. I started from Boppard, by ferry.

Today's hike was quite challenging; the climbs were rather steep and the route somewhat longer. Parts of the paths were quite difficult, as they had been churned up by wild boars and were muddy, making them hard to walk on. But the stunning views over the Rhine, the beautiful castle at the end, and the friendly people more than made …

We insisted on taking a detailed tour of the Marksburg Castle at the beginning of our tour. The first tour, from April to October, is at 10:20 a.m. Tours are only available with a guide. It lasts about an hour. But it's definitely worth it!

We were caught by rain twice, but luckily there were plenty of places to take shelter along the route. There are also rest areas on the route. I found the Osterspeier forest path a little less interesting at times - a muddy path without much of a view - but all in all, highly recommended!
