Erie Canal Lock 10

Highlight • Monument

This is a great historic spot along the canal. The lock is still fully operational and you can walk right up to it and the Mohawk River. If you're lucky you will catch a sight of the lock in motion!

Sometimes camping is allowed on lock grounds for through-hikers and bikepackers. When in doubt you can always contact the lock master to be sure.

Lock and weir

Highlight • Structure

The lock and weir is an impressive sight from this good quality cycle path. It is especially cool when significant streams of water are flowing out of the lower side.

Next to the Mohawk-Hudson Bike Trail. Good spot for a stop. It is fun watching the ships in the lock.

Mohawk River Lock 8

Highlight • Structure

Who doesn't live biking along a river? But in this case the really interesting things are the river locks, which can be filled with water (or partially emptied of it) to help ships navigate the upslope or downslope of the river, depending on which direction they're going.
