Right behind the medieval bath on Wiebeunnenstraße is the small, refreshing Wies-Brünnlein. I have to take that photo again. Or you 🙂...

Old Town Hall Plochingen

Highlight • Historical Site

Old Town Hall, Plochingen am Neckar

The Old Town Hall, a striking Alemannic timber-framed building of regional architectural significance, was built in 1530. The beams are set in the famous "Swabian Man" style, with mortised and tenoned tie beams. In 1977, as part of the town center redevelopment, the building was moved from its former location on Neckarstrasse to its current location on the market square. Plochingen residents contributed to this spectacular project through donations as part of a civic initiative. Today, civil weddings are held in the Old Town Hall, and the town council also meets there. Since November 2000, the council chamber has featured the mural "Allegory of Good Government," created by the Leipzig artist Michael Triegel on behalf of the town. The mural depicts an allegorical representation of Plochingen at the turn of the millennium and thematically connects to important examples of town hall interiors from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. Against the backdrop of Plochingen's skyline, the personified virtues, goals, and social responsibility that characterize the community and its decision-makers are symbolically depicted. Market Fountain, Plochingen am Neckar

The market fountain was created in 1978 by the artist Karl Ulrich Nuß from Strümpfelbach. Atop the fountain column stand the fish man and fish woman, personifications of the Neckar and Fils rivers, symbolizing their confluence in Plochingen. The column itself is adorned with reliefs illustrating significant events in Plochingen's history.

Fish fountain, Plochingen am Neckar
The fish fountain square opens up at the lower end of Marktstrasse. Here you will find the stone fish fountain with the bronze sculpture of a farmer's wife drawing water, which was created in 1982 by the sculptor Franz Otto Lipp. The fish fountain was mentioned at this location as early as the 14th century. It was used by the Neckar fishermen to keep their catch fresh in the fountain trough. The measuring vessels that specified the unit of measurement for volume were tied to the trough, which is why the fountain was also called the "Eychbrunnen".

Köblinhaus Plochingen

Highlight • Historical Site

At Fischbrunnen 9 and 10 stands the oldest surviving residential and commercial building in the city. It was built in 1488 by the fustian cloth merchant and winegrower Hans Köblin.

Until the 17th century, the property was owned by the wealthy Köblin family, who bore the nickname "Schörrich." Only by these nicknames could one distinguish the many Köblin families in the village. During the Napoleonic era, the cooper Georg Friedrich Bühl ran a brandy tavern on the first floor, which was well-known and highly regarded throughout the region.

Female figures "1996 artist Wolfgang Thiel", Plochingen am Neckar
In front of the Zehntscheuer in Marktstrasse stands one of a total of eight female figures created in 1996 by the Plochingen-based artist Wolfgang Thiel. They stand at important intersections in the city and show pedestrians and cyclists the way. The "primal woman" is a wooden sculpture from which eight concrete casts were made. These were then colored by the artist - depending on the location. They stand on high concrete bases on which the information boards helpful for non-locals have been attached.
