Old Heldburg Station

Highlight • Monument

The old station building in Heldburg, built in 1888, is located on the former Hildburghausen–
Lindenau-Friedrichshall, also affectionately called Heldburger Bimmelbähnle.
This was a narrow-gauge railway that connected Hildburghausen with the Heldburger Land to the south.
Today the building is used as a multi-generation house.

Heldburg Forestry Office

Highlight • Monument

There are numerous half-timbered houses in Heldburg, but this one stands out 👍🏻. No wonder, since it is extensively designed with ornamental framework. It is still used today as a forestry office.

Highlight • Trail

Shelter on the Luther Trail. A visit to the fortress and the German Castle Museum is always worthwhile.

Hoher Stein

Highlight • Trail

There is a refuge here and now the Hoher Stein 328 stamp point. A trail leads here towards Bad Rodach. The Veste Heldburg or Billmuthausen can be reached quickly.

Billmuthausen Memorial Site

Highlight • Historical Site

The former place was razed during the GDR era. There is still a cemetery with a chapel and a well.
Thankfully the place is maintained. A nice quiet place.

Cow Lake

Highlight • Lake

The Kuhseefest is legendary with brass band music and great food. It's time for it to take place again. From there you can also get to the Schnepfenbrunnen and further in the direction of Billmuthausen or Bad Colberg.

View of Veste Heldburg

Highlight • Viewpoint

From here you can see the castle, bordered by trees on the left and right. A great photo opportunity. It's worth taking a break on the nearby Gerichtsberg.

Today's tour, a recommendation from the Rother Steigerwald hiking guide, which I slightly modified, was a detour to Thuringia. It started in the parking lot of the tourist information office; the town of 142 residents treats itself to something like that. When the spa clinic was still …

We started from the parking lot behind the Greek in Bad Colberg. We walk past Sabine's Cafe on the left. Here you can decide how around you want to run this round. If the other way around, it is better not to use the patrol road, rather the road with little traffic.
We decided to go clockwise. So into the …
