NABU Brelingen Area

Highlight • Lake

A wildly romantic pond area in the midst of steeply rising break-off edges like from another world. Gravel and sand were mined here until the mid-1970s. Thereafter, the depression created by the dismantling was used as a flushing surface for the new pit on the opposite side and backfilled.
This created a relatively humid area in the western half of the site, in which willows and reed beds settled. The eastern part of the site was (and is still partially) covered with mountains of oversized grain (gravel, the economic value of which is low). This area was taken over by the NABU group Wedemark in early 2007.
