Large Sandstone Rock on the Unraspfad

Highlight • Natural Monument

The interesting formations formed by the red sandstone cliffs here are not man-made. Nature was the architect, piling up rocks here over the course of Earth's history and partially smoothing them down again through erosion—a perpetual process.

Together with my best friend, we hiked the rocks near Nideggen today in glorious autumn weather, covering a lot of elevation gain. So many beautiful impressions and fantastic views of the surrounding area – everything so beautifully colorful thanks to the vibrant autumn foliage. A wonderful hike that we thoroughly enjoyed! 😃👍🏼

A beautiful, very varied hike. Lots of forest, rocks, animals, water of the Rur and 2 dear people to accompany you. Perfect.

Today we made a second round. Due to circumstances we made a short version of it. It remains a fascinating area where many beautiful walks can be made. And so close from Utrecht!

To everyone who wants to do this tour! It was very beautiful and a good walk! Unfortunately, the bridge at Gut Kallerbend is closed from April to September 2025. We walked over the temporary bridge with the permission of the construction workers; otherwise, you'd have to take a huge detour!

Komoot let me down a few times today and abruptly quit, hence starting the route in Part I.
We didn't exactly follow the red sandstone route, but mostly.
There are numerous opportunities to stop off in Nideggen.
Nice hike!
