Former Poorhouse Seestermühe

Highlight • Historical Site

The former poorhouse from 1835 dates back to a foundation by the noble von Ahlefeldt family in 1645. Between 1952 and 1954, the building was converted to be used as a village school. An annex was added. In 1974, school operations in Seestermühe were discontinued. Today, the building is owned by the municipality and serves as a community center and kindergarten. The building is a three-wing, single-storey brick structure. The nine-axis-wide central wing has a narrow two-storey risalit, the gable of which is topped by a cross.

Glockenhaus Seestermühe

Highlight • Historical Site

The so-called bell house is a brick building with a gable roof that has a ridge turret for the tower clock and bell. It serves as the estate's outbuilding. Originally built before 1800, it burned down in 1900 and was then rebuilt in its current form. In 1958 it was redesigned, among other things to create storage for pome fruit.

Linden Avenue

Highlight • Trail

The Seestermühe estate in Seestermühe is, next to the Haseldorfer estate, the second estate in the Pinneberger Elbmarschen. In addition to the representative manor house, several outbuildings have been preserved. A 680 meter long four-row avenue of linden trees, at the end of which there is a baroque garden pavilion, is of horticultural importance. The avenue is a relic of a larger French garden that was laid out around 1710.

Seestermühe Tea House

Highlight • Monument

The teahouse is at the end of the four-row linden avenue. It was built in 1760, probably according to plans by the Baroque architect Ernst Georg Sonnin. It is a brick building with a domed roof over an elongated octagonal floor plan. The walls are divided by pilasters. The interior was redesigned in 1818. After a renovation in 1927, the building was given heritage protection (now a listed building). Further renovations took place in the 1960s and 1981. An apartment has been built into the teahouse since 1981.

starfish trouble

The water masses destroyed the house of the Schmidt family standing here. Three family members were able to save themselves on the roof, although unfortunately the 10-month-old daughter drowned in the floods.

The last dike breach in Seestermühe happened at this point on 3/4. February 1825 and had reached this flood level (see sign).
