Sanctuary of the Crucifix in San Felice

Highlight • Religious Site

The building is believed to originate from the 9th-10th century. In the wall of the current façade, traces of three cross windows, typical of Romanesque architecture, were seen in the 19th century. The current apse, with a cross vaulted ceiling and monogram of San Bernardino da Siena, is the work of a renovation carried out in the fifteenth century; the ceiling of the church is instead a simple truss.
Tradition has it that San Felice (like Campiano) was a stopover for Pope Lucius III on his journey to the Benedictine abbey of San Pietro in Badia Calavena; it seems that the pope had granted a special privilege, that is to be able to gain all the indulgences of the Roman Church for every Friday of the year.

The sanctuary (officially the rectory of the diocese of Verona) is open every day and is located on the pass between Val Tramigna and Val d'Illasi, a few meters from the provincial road 37/a "dei ciliegi"; precisely its position makes it frequented by people from both valleys especially during the Fridays of Lent with the Via Crucis.

On the way back, the climb to Mezzane di sopra is a must for the view it offers over the vineyards below
