Patterdale Village

Highlight • Pub

Like Glenridding, the mention of Patterdale makes most hikers think of Helvellyn and the adventures to be had on the third highest mountain in England. It was in Patterdale that Alfred Wainwright's classic Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells were first sold.

Located on the southern tip of Ullswater, it is a great base for many exciting walks. There are plenty of accommodation options, including the Patterdale Youth Hostel, which has lodgings and camping spaces.

Angletarn Pikes

Highlight • Viewpoint

Angletarn Pikes is 1,860 feet (567 m) in height and is one of the Wainwright fells of the Far Eastern Lake District. It's situated just to the north-west of Angle Tarn. It has two main tops, the north top and the south top and it's the north top that is the Wainwright summit. I particularly like the view to Brothers Water from this summit.

Angle Tarn

Highlight • Lake

The trail winds around half of Angle Tarn with splendid views from many different perspectives. I recommend walking this on a clear day as then the color of the water is a deep blue, out of this world, and the wind adds sparkling highlights to it.

Rest Dodd

Highlight • Natural

Rest Dodd is a 2,283-foot (696 m) Wainwright fell in the Far Eastern Lake District which has a rounded dome-like summit. The fell is in the Martindale deer forest so if you're hiking around here (particularly in the early morning or late evening) you're very likely to see a herd of deer along your route. Keep your eyes peeled as most of the time they'll stay far away from the paths (and you)!

Hartsop Village Car Park

Highlight • Parking

A great gravel-based car park working on an honesty-box principle. It is primarily used for walkers heading to Hayeswater Gill, Angle Tarn, and Rest Dodd. It is a blessing in disguise in this congested little valley, and it is a decent size too. If this is full, there is also parking about a kilometre away at Cow Bridge Car Park.
