Fröhden Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

A Johanne de vroden appears in a document from 1308. Vroden is then directly mentioned in 1325/39. However, the origin and meaning of the name are unclear.

The Fröhden Church is a small rectangular hall with a retracted tower in the west. There is a plastered extension on the north side, and a neo-Gothic brick entrance hall on the south. On the ship there is relatively regular fieldstone masonry, in which normal-width and small-scale spandrels alternate. The masonry of the tower, on the other hand, is irregular and heavily interspersed with broken brick.

All windows were changed and provided with plaster frames. The tower's sound openings show stepped brick soffits, which could very well be original. The gate on its west side may also date from the time of construction. In the east, the masonry looks restless. The two windows there could, albeit changed, come from a former three-window group. The added gate - accesses in the east are rare - with its brick reveal may have been created together with the already mentioned one on the tower. The stepped gable probably comes from the same conversion as the entrance hall. Of the original entrances, only the noticeably narrow and clogged community portal in the south has survived.
Inside, a beamed ceiling spans the nave, most of which is furnished in the 18th century.

Based on the quality of the masonry, the hall was probably built in the first half of the 14th century. The tower followed later, probably in the 15th century. The extension to the north is a late 18th-century patronal lodge. Around the middle of the 19th century, the entrance hall was added and the brick gable was built up in the east.

Cycle path between Werder and Markendorf

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Very good, beautiful and wide bicycle road, on which the RK4 and RK5 of the Flaeming skates run. The bike rolls well here, the asphalt is impeccable and you ride through beautiful countryside. Behind Werder there is a short but steep climb before the view opens up over the fields. A large part of the asphalt surface was renewed some time ago and equipped with root foil. There are some very nice rest areas along the way.
