Pump Well Kainach

Highlight • Structure

In the middle of Kainach stands this historic pump well – a testament to the former water supply in the countryside. Long before there was a central water supply, such wells were of great importance to people. Water was a precious commodity in the high plateau of the Franconian Switzerland and had to be laboriously obtained from wells and springs in many places.
It is particularly beautiful at Easter, when it – like many wells in the Franconian Switzerland – is festively decorated.

Dohlenstein

Highlight • Natural Monument

The remarkable, two-part Dohlenstein on the edge of the Kaiserbachtal valley, southeast of Krögelstein, is made of dolomite. Ice-age small fauna was found in the Dohlenstein cave. The rock is very popular with climbers and has been assigned to zone "3". The rock has an unusual shape and houses a cave that winds high up through the rock. It is also known for a magnificent overhang. The rugged dolomite rocks and cave entrances of the Kaiserbachtal valley offer ideal, sheltered nesting sites for jackdaws. These birds prefer rock niches and holes in vertical walls, such as those typical of the Dohlenstein and the neighboring rocks near Krögelstein. In the Franconian Switzerland region, it is customary to name striking rock formations after animals that were observed or nested there. For example, directly next to the Dohlenstein is the Geierstein, which underscores this tradition of "bird rocks".
