St. Valentin Church in Unterföhring

Highlight • Religious Site

The exterior is structured by large, rectangular panels. The tower rises at the south-west corner of the nave, on whose four square basement floors the octagonal bell storey covered with a clapboard onion dome is built.
Story:
The remains of the foundations of the first church building from the Romanesque period were discovered during the thorough restoration in 1973. In the years 1650 to 1660, after the Thirty Years' War, a major renovation must have taken place. A new tower was built in 1712, and in 1716 the Prince Bishop of Freising, Johann Franz Eckher von Kapfing and Liechteneck, commissioned the construction of the new nave. In 1716/17 the old nave was demolished, in April 1717 the bishop laid the foundation stone and in 1718 he was able to consecrate the new church. The master builder was Dominik Glasl, the master mason working in Freising. The vestibule was added in 1745/46.

Yes, well, somehow you have to believe in something
Afterwards we had a wonderful day in Munich with glorious sunshine and left our worries at home
Located directly on an Isar trail, right next to the Isar and a few steps down from the Isar Cycle Path

Copper Tree West Slope

Highlight • Monument

Copper tree 'Westhang' from the year 2009 designed by the artist Melanie Stiehl from Munich.
With her work of art "Westhang", the Munich artist Melanie Stiehl won the competition "Art and Construction S-Bahn Unterföhring", which is endowed with 100,000 euros.
And with a unanimous vote of the jury against 30 other applicants.
"Your work of art impresses with its simplicity and will certainly become a meeting point for all citizens," said Mayor Franz Schwarz.
The copper tree is bent because "it was important to me to pick up on the wind of the S-Bahn and because the station is a dynamic place," says Stiehl.
Among other things, Stiehl used 400 kilometers of welding wire to build the trunk.
