Stables and Riding Hall Lednice

Highlight • Historical Site

Prince Johann Adam I Andreas had the extensive baroque stables (stables, riding hall and horse pond) built in the vicinity of the palace. The southern entrance wing was the first to be built in 1690, the east wing was built from 1693 and in 1695 the
West wing built as living quarters for staff. Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach had the project in the years 1687-1688

Lednice Castle

Highlight • Castle

A dream of a castle, the hammer ...
The whole area with the castle, orangery, minaret, park - absolutely worth seeing.
Castle with paid tours, park free.
But: push your bike or connect it outside.
At the weekend: Heaven and Hell, crowds, many with bikes.
I consciously saw this facility for the first time in 2007, there was still a lot of construction going on, and then I have been here again and again.

The historic Moorish Waterworks in Lednice, or Moorish House, served as part of the system that supplied water to the park and as a spa resort for the Burgundy nobility. Its current appearance was given in the 1950s by the architect Jiří Wingelmüller, who combined Moorish and Gothic elements in the decoration of the facade
The building, remodeled in Moorish style by the architect Wingelmüller, served partly as a steam bath and at the same time as a technical background for the park's irrigation system. The turbine located here produced electricity for the castle and part of the village.

Pumps that irrigate park areas are still doing their job and other companies also use them for service water. The building underwent many changes during its lifetime. This was preceded by a work by Václav Josef and master builder Breguin. Twelve years later costly repairs were needed and then this pumping station was closed as impractical. The new project was initiated in 1785 and its implementation began in the same year.

The waterworks is located about 250 m north of the Lednice chateau on the bank of the Dyje river. As one of the oldest preserved facilities of this type in the Czech Republic, the building was later given to the Technical Museum in Brno.

Minaret of Lednice

Highlight • Monument

The minaret is a lookout tower in the park of Lednice Castle. According to legend, Alois I of Liechtenstein planned to found a church in the town. After the residents could not agree on a suitable building site, Alois, out of spite, had a mosque with a minaret built. The mosque was never built due to the subsoil. Construction of the minaret began in 1797 and was completed in 1802 according to the plans of Joseph Hardtmuth (the inventor of the pencil). Due to the swampy terrain, 500 alder pylons had to be felled and several more layers of oak beams had to be laid before construction could begin. The building is approximately 60 meters high. The third viewing terrace can be reached from the inside of this tower. There are 302 steps to climb.
