Zitronenjette Statue

Highlight • Monument

"Your life who suur as de lemons, should it be worth remembering you? Dien Schiksol wiest op all de Lüüd, for de dat luck het gor keen Tiet"
(Your life has been sour as lemons, are you worth remembering? Your destiny points to all the people luck has no time for)

A plaque at the bottom of the bronze monument describes the life of Johanne Henriette Marie Müller. Born out of wedlock in Dessau in 1841, she came to Hamburg with her mother shortly thereafter, to the Neustadt district. At the age of thirteen, she was already on the road as a hawker with a basket full of lemons. She bought the fruit from the sailors on the ships in the harbor. With the shout "Zitroon, Zitroon, fresh Zitroon!" she became well known.

In the evenings she was also out and about in the pubs of St. Pauli and was also willingly filled with caraway seeds so that she would sing one of her rough little songs. She wasn't aware that people were also making fun of her. The excessive consumption of alcohol later made her conspicuous and in 1894 she was committed to the "Friedrichsberg mental asylum". There she went through cold turkey and was then admitted to the open prison. She stayed there until her death in 1916.

The diagnosis "cretinism" in congenital hypothyroidism or iodine deficiency did not exist at that time. This led to their short stature and intellectual underdevelopment.

Henriette Müller is considered a Hamburg original, but just like the Hummel, the originality of the Lemon Jette does not stand for success, but for a dreary outsider existence. By combining illegitimacy, poverty and disabilities in one person, the Lemon Jette was relegated to the fringes of society.

Composers' Quarter Hamburg - Peterstraße

Highlight • Historical Site

The residential complex on Peterstrasse is, apart from the former Beylingstift (39), a reconstruction of houses from the Katharinenviertel. It conveys a piece of old Hamburg and in one passage you can see the history and pictures of the old quarter.
It is also the seat of the composer's quarters. At the corner of Neanderstrasse is the Café and the Museum of the Old Masters (Telemann, C. Ph. E. Bach and Hasse). Here you can also buy the tickets, also for the Brahms Museum, Peterstrasse 39.

Planten un Blomen

Highlight • Natural Monument

Planten un Blomen is a 47 hectare park in the center of Hamburg. The name is in Low German meaning "plants and flowers". One of the most beautiful parks I have ever seen. The facility is just a dream. At the exit of the TV tower there is delicious ice cream and you can sit beautifully by the pond. Spacious with water fountains and a small river. The rose garden has many different varieties with a nice fragrance. Belongs to a visit to Hamburg necessarily

The small ramparts are part of Planten un Blomen, a small city park with colorful flower beds, fountains, shaded benches, and a turtle pond.

All without admission. The park has two large playgrounds and many different seating options. There is also a roller skating/inline skating rink and of course food and drink. 😉

Rose Garden, Planten un Blomen

Highlight • Natural Monument

When the rose garden is in full bloom, it's hard for one, or rather for a woman, to part with it 🌺...
Too beautiful 🥰...

In summer, water features daily at certain times during the day. In the evenings, a water light organ (with music) is played live, which controls numerous fountains. Great lighting effects, super nice. Take a blanket with you, sit on the lawn and enjoy :-)
