Leopoldine Aqueduct of Colognole

Highlight • Monument

Route with various difficulties also due to the state of the surface (very rocky) which starts from Valle Benedetta, passes through the Leopoldino Aqueduct, rejoins the town of Colognole (asphalted section along the SP5). From Colognole the route resumes the woodland path up to the hamlet of Loti and from there it rejoins the asphalt road (SP7) until after Pandoiano. From the B&B "attempt" to detour along the marked path to resume the main route of the Calvary, however very unsuccessful, because the path is impassable (fallen trees and very thick brambles). Obligatory detour again along the SP7 towards Ceppeto and from there resume the forest path.
!! ATTENTION !! Considerable slopes in some places. Furthermore, it is necessary to pay great attention, because some passages are not well signposted and the paths get confused in the bush. The sources of the Leopoldino Aqueduct are beautiful, however I advise those who suffer from vertigo not to pass through the arches and to use the neighboring passages.

View of Poggio Lecceta

Highlight • Viewpoint

Poggio Lecceta, 457 meters above sea level, is the highest peak of the Livorno Hills and is divided between the municipalities of Livorno and Collesalvetti. The summit is occupied by a radar station, whose radome can be seen from a great distance.
On the slopes of the hill is the Livorno hamlet of Valle Benedetta (364 m), known for being the site of numerous excursions by the C.A.I. of Livorno. Among the numerous streams that have their sources in Poggio Lecceta are the Rio Maggiore and the Torrente Ugione, which are among the longest that descend from the Livorno Hills.
(from Wikipedia)
Access to the Radar area is via a short, but very steep climb along Via del Radar; However, since it is a military structure that has the purpose of providing meteorological information, as well as ensuring air traffic control and surveillance of maritime navigation, access to the structure is prohibited to unauthorized persons.
