Puente Nuevo (New Bridge) in Ronda

Highlight • Bridge

The bridge separates the old town from the newer part of the city, El Mercadillo, which emerged after the Spanish conquest. The abyss of more than 80 meters is saved with the New Bridge, which dates from the end of the 18th century. From the Plaza María Auxiliadora, there is an unpaved road that goes down to the viewpoint, from where you can have the famous view of Ronda with the New Bridge.

Anyone touring the region should visit this place. Ronda is truly beautiful, with a spectacular location on a high plateau crossed by the El Tajo gorge, which offers breathtaking views. Highlight • Viewpoint

The plaza is less crowded than other viewpoints such as the Mirador de la Alameda or the Puente Nuevo, making it an ideal place for quiet moments and relaxation. Plaza Bruna is a hidden gem in Ronda. With its peaceful atmosphere and stunning views of the gorge and the countryside, it is an ideal place for those who want to experience the beauty of the region away from the main tourist crowds.

Setenil de las Bodegas Town Hall

Highlight • Monument

This unique village is the only one in this part of Andalusia with cave dwellings. Unlike the region around Granada, there are no chimneys here, just rows of houses that seem to collapse under the weight of the rock from which they were carved. Beautiful examples are located on Calle Cuevas del Sol and Calle Cuevas de la Sombra. The tourist office has a beautiful artesonado ceiling from the 16th century. A keep towers above Setenil, from where the neighbouring village of Olvera can be seen. The Gothic Iglesia de la Encarnacion, located even higher, is decorated with neo-Gothic frescoes

The caves were chosen for housing because of their ability to provide natural insulation against heat and cold, eliminating the need for full-fledged houses. This area has been inhabited since prehistoric times.

Arriate

Highlight • Settlement

The traditional white village in the south of the province has an Arabic origin (Arriadh=orchard). For centuries the economic strength of the village lay in the wealth of its fruit trees, from pear trees to apple trees and plum trees. Nowadays the inhabitants see their population steadily increasing thanks to the proximity of Ronda and the lower house prices.

April 17, 2025,🇪🇸🚴🏻‍♀️Ronda - Setenil de las Bodegas - Ronda 🌧️☁️12-15🌡️
It started to rain right after I started 🌧️🥴
When I arrived in Setenil, after 18 km, it stopped.

Setenil de las Bodegas is known for its houses built into the cliffs 🏠

On my way back, I wanted to climb up to a viewpoint, but unfortunately, that didn't work out 🥴 The road was broken and closed 😒
