Inn Zur Wuchtlwirtin

Highlight • Restaurant

The Wuchteln are terrific - both in scope and taste.
And the other dishes on the menu are huge too. It takes a bit of strategy to accommodate all of this. :-)

Hubertussee

Highlight • Lake

The Hubertussee is definitely worth a rest, if not a long walk around the lake. Across the lake you have a wonderful view of the mountain panorama from everywhere. There is also a lot to discover on its banks: including the Hubertus Chapel, which picturesquely watches over the lake on the mountainside, the spring of the same name and the impressive dam.

Mariazell–St. Pölten Scenic Route

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The section along the Walster River is one of the most scenic parts of the Traisental Cycle Path (R13). It leads through the mountainous landscape of the Lower Austrian Prealps and, in its upper reaches, follows the Walster, a clear mountain stream that flows into the Traisen River near Annaberg.

From Mariazell, the route initially descends gently through the idyllic Walster Valley, past dense forests, lush meadows, and quiet hamlets. The section along Lake Hubertus near Wienerbruck is particularly charming and offers a perfect spot for a short break. The path then continues along the Walster towards Annaberg, where the river joins the young Traisen. From here, the route leads through the narrow, wooded Traisen Valley down into the gentle Alpine foothills and finally to the state capital, St. Pölten.

The route is well signposted and largely follows quiet side roads and cycle paths. It offers a diverse combination of alpine scenery, clear waters and cultural impressions – an ideal tour for experienced cyclists and nature lovers who want to enjoy the tranquil Walstertal valley.

The Traisental cycle path starts in the Styrian pilgrimage town of Mariazell. Although Mariazell is not on the Traisen, the start is still there. We do the journey in two parts. First we drive to St. Pölten with our bikes in the trunk. From the Lower Austrian provincial capital we take the Mariazellerbahn to its eponymous end.
