In the Middle Ages, the lepers were abandoned on the other side of Piesport and had their camp above where the chapel stands today.

Moselloreley Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

A high-altitude rest area on the Moselle Loreley with a surprisingly sturdy railing. This is necessary, as the ground drops away steeply – almost without a bottom – immediately afterward.

From the railing, you can enjoy the view of the Piesport Moselle loop.

The "Moselle Loreley" – a natural monument – rises almost vertically from the banks of the Moselle. From 1852 to 1872 and from 1937 to 1939, copper ore and galena were mined in this rock formation.

Fun fact: Directly below this viewpoint, on the banks of the Moselle, is a tiny vineyard (Erzlay, 500 vines) that is inaccessible by road and can therefore only be reached by boat!

From the Rothlay rock, known as the "Mosel-Loreley", you have a great view of the Moselle loop at individual points. Attention: It's going down steeply!

Great view of Piesport and the Moselle loop.
There are two rest benches available, but unfortunately they are located directly on the country road.

September 26, 2021,157. 🇩🇪 Minheim - Minheimer Pestkapelle - Müsterter Brücke - Piesport - Minheim
Who would have thought that the vineyards and estates would hold us back like this. And that's why it's only 10 km today. A lot of photos were taken for this and one or the other spot for a later photo tour was also included. What a beautiful piece of earth 👍🍷👍.

Today we were on the beautiful Mosel, or better still on the Moselloreley. On the way we met a journeyman from California who had gotten a little lost in the vineyards. He wanted to explore the Moselsteig but didn't have a proper map with him. We decided on the spur of the moment to invite him to accompany us on …

Fantastic hike, partly directly on the banks of the Moselle, through vineyards and nice places. The climb was quite strenuous due to the blazing sun. The view rewarded the effort.

Nice tour through the vineyards of Piesport and back down along the Moselle!

Today we walked a section of the Römersteig trail and enjoyed magnificent views between Piesport and Minheim. The weather was fantastically warm, and we had a real summer feeling. We saw many animals, such as a red kite, some lizards, and a hummingbird hawk-moth. However, not everything was photographable with our phones.

I discovered this tour at @🥾🚴Rasche 🚴🥾 and - since the weather seemed ideal for it - I spontaneously invited my sister 😍 and off we went.

It was extremely windy, but the wind was pleasantly warm 🥵 (and it did snow yesterday 🥶❄️☃️)

You can save yourself the wrong way from about km 0.75. That means about 1 km to nowhere and back again. Nevertheless, the path also offers some beautiful perspectives.
