Haus Schilling

Highlight • Historical Site

This half-timbered house is a semi-detached house from different centuries. The main house (lower part) is a solid building from 1517. The younger, upper part, a half-timbered house from 1632. This part of the house was the seat and apartment of a count's feudal lord and bailiff "Von der Mark", while the lower part was for the servants were appointed.
We owe the preservation of this beautiful building to the church painter Georg Schilling, who completely restored the building in the early 1960s and uncovered the half-timbering. The two superimposed cross-vaulted cellars under the solid building from 1517 are probably the oldest surviving building in Pünderich.

The current church was built by the builder Paul Stehling in 1776. It is a hall building, the interior of which is still completely preserved in late Baroque forms. The eight colorful windows from the 19th century are dedicated to popular saints, saints from the Trier region, the missionary St. Willibord and the Holy Family. The high altar, which was created in the last quarter of the 18th century, is richly gilded, the middle field shows the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, above it the three figures of the Holy Trinity under a canopy carried by volutes. The two side altars and the pulpit come from the former St. John's chapel in Zell-Corray. The font with its shell niches is from the 16th century. The organ was built by the brothers Franz Heinrich and Carl Stumm from Rhauen-Sulzbach in 1813-1815.
