Alt Rehse initially belonged to the Premonstratensian monastery of Broda, before 22 different owners subsequently possessed the village located on the Tollensesee.

In 1934, the estate and park came into the possession of the Hartmannbund through expropriation. Here, at the request of the Reichsärzteführung (Reich Leadership of Physicians), they had the Führerschule der Deutschen Ärzteschaft (Leadership School of German Physicians) built and took possession of the estate. The old village was demolished, with the exception of the church, the school, and the parsonage, as well as a cottage, the later Dorfkrug (village inn). Subsequently, until 1939, 22 half-timbered houses in a Low German style with thatched roofs were built. Their lintels bore the year of construction after the Nazi seizure of power and the name of a German Gau. The teaching operations continued until January 1943, while the estate produced for the Führerschule and the Reichskanzlei.

Alt Rehse is a village and a district of the town of Penzlin on the western shore of the Tollensesee. The village ensemble is architecturally and historically unique in Germany as a rare example of village architecture during National Socialism.
The place is of Slavic origin. After the departure of the Germanic inhabitants during the Migration Period, the medieval tribes of the Redarii and the Tollensers from the tribal confederation of the Wilzians, who were later also united in the Liutizenbund, lived here. The name "Rehse" could be derived from the Old Slavic language and mean "place by the water".

Alt Rehse is first mentioned in 1182 as "reze" in a confirmation document by Duke Bogislaw I of Pomerania for the possessions of the Broda monastery.
In 1945, the Red Army evacuated the population and used the area until October 1947. In the search for written documents, books were comprehensively confiscated in the village, and the church records also disappeared.
