Before 1915 the cities of Valdagno and Schio were connected by a steep mule track replaced in 1917 by a military road 5 meters wide. In the last two years of the war, Gazza, Campogrosso and the Chiampo valley were also connected by important truck roads.
The latter allowed an orderly retreat of the Army towards the "Mincio - Po" line in the event of a collapse of the eastern front. The minor entrenchment roads, such as the Passo Zovo - Castrazzano - Civillina road built in 1917 instead had logistical functions.
