Lake Seebensee

Highlight • Lake

Crystal-clear, blue-green water. Mystical in the fog, kitsch in the bright sun. Seebensee is a dream. Tranquil yet spectacular at the same time. From the southern shore, a magnificent view with the Wetterstein and Zugspitze mountains in the background.

Finding the way is sometimes difficult, but for the most part you can orientate yourself on the red trail markings. Climbing harness and rope are not absolutely necessary, provided that climbing in UIAA II is problematic! Helmet is strongly recommended as stones are repeatedly kicked off and thunder into the valley. In many places there are also metal eyelets to be able to secure yourself should you decide to take a rope with you.

Most climbers come to the Ehrwalder Sonnenspitze without a rope.

Above all the climbing spots, however, there are perfect belays with chains drilled in so that you could secure them with a rope. However, there are almost no intermediate safeguards. Only a few traverses are equipped with a kind of sow tail, for which no quickdraws are required.

A traverse is secured with a steel cable (A/B). But that doesn't make the path to the Ehrwalder Sonnenspitze a via ferrata. You could attach a via ferrata set. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether they want to take it with them for the short stretch. You can stand on the band well. But it is very exposed.

There is a drilled belay in front of the very airy summit level. After about 20 meters there is the first intermediate protection. It is another 20 meters to the last intermediate belay above the climbing point. From there about 40 meters to the summit cross.

If you want to take a rope with you, it should be at least 30 meters long.

Hoher Gang Trail

Highlight • Trail

For sure-footed hikers with a head for heights, an enjoyable ascent to Seeben Lake with impressive views in all directions.
In bad weather and on wet, slippery ground, it is better to only use this as an alternative ascent!

Seebensee Crossing

Highlight • Trail

If you circumnavigate the lake on the west side to the north, the last stretch of the route either leads directly through the water or you use the created path and balance over stones 🪨 in the water to the tree trunk, on this to the other side and over more stones 🪨 back to the shore. Adventurous, but beautiful and doable 😉
