For centuries, the inhabitants of Upper Hesse have been drawn to this ancient pilgrimage site. The place where the church of the deserted village of "Forst" once stood developed into a place of Marian worship and pilgrims repeatedly set up wooden Marian shrines there until the middle of the 19th century. In 1895, these were replaced by a stone chapel. The chapel is made of red sandstone and its red columns are a feast for the eyes in the middle of the green forest. At the center of the chapel is the Pieta with the Virgin Mary holding her son, taken from the cross, on her lap.
