Werra cycle route and weir in Hann. Münden

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Not just any path directly on the river, but it's the WERRA long-distance cycle path (also Rosentalweg) and it's beautiful! Not as busy as the neighboring Fuldaradweg.
The path remains flat for the most part and stretches along the Werra.

Historic Old Town of Hann. Münden

Highlight • Historical Site

When you are out and about on the Weser, Fulda or Werra, there is no way around Hannoversch Münden! And that's just as well!

Werra River Bend Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Very beautiful and idyllic loop of the Werra river. One of the most beautiful sections of the Werra Cycle Path. The cycle path is unpaved here, but easy to ride.

Today we're cycling through three federal states and three rivers: starting in Eschwege in Hesse, continuing along the Werra through Thuringia, back into Hesse, and finally into Lower Saxony, reaching Hann. Münden. There, the Fulda and Werra rivers were named after them. From there, the Weser flows to the North Sea. A beautiful tour, mostly well signposted. The route partially …

Finally, a piece of Werratalredweg to get to the car.
It's a very nice track.

Sixth and final stage of the Werratal cycle path (from Eschwege to Hann-Münden - with Bad-Soden Allendorf and Witzenhausen as towns worth seeing and mentioning "in between"). For me personally, however, it was the first stage of this beautifully developed and easy-to-manage cycle path.

The sixth and final stage of the Werra Valley Cycle Route was, in our opinion, the most scenic route. On this section, the river follows a unique and worth seeing course. You mostly cycle directly along the bank and can really enjoy the landscape there, which the selection of photos should document a little. The highlights of this stage are …

On the fifth day, the tour leads again on very beautiful and quiet paths. Except Bad Soden Allendorf and especially bad in Eschwege. The last 10km went through a terrible industrial area. And the city doesn't have much charm. Next time I would drive around Eschwege extensively.

A clear recommendation for the Werra Valley Cycle Path 👍 Diverse landscapes, beautiful, quiet villages, and steeped in history, especially due to the former inner-German border. Be sure to pack provisions for the stages, though.

Noon in Hann. Arrived in Münden by train, we first went to the obligatory Weserstein. As we found out, we weren't the only ones 😁.
From there we always went along the Werra, embedded on the right and left by smaller mountains, upstream towards the stage destination Eschwege. Along the route there were one or the other castle to admire …
