Partisan Monument

Highlight • Monument

The monument is not very promoted, because it honors partisans, but of the People's Republic of Poland ;-)

The monument commemorated the heroism of the People's Army partisans. The sculpture was placed opposite the building of the Polish United Workers' Party, completed in 1952. Earlier, in 1958, the sculpture took part in the competition for the Monument to the Heroes of Warsaw. It depicts a wounded partisan supported by a woman holding a branch of laurel in her outstretched hand, and its style refers to the Pieta.

There is an inscription on the pedestal: To the Partisans - Fighters for People's Poland. During the renovation of the monument in 2014, it was replaced with a new inscription reading:
Partisans fighting for free Poland during World War II.

Iconic "Warszawa Powiśle"

Highlight • Cafe

The Warszawa Powiśle PKP stop was built in 1963. It gained a new function thanks to the Warszawa Group, the former building is now a cult club-café. The project by Arseniusz Romanowicz and Piotr Szymaniak has just been entered into the register of historical monuments. It is a place of concerts, culinary feasts, joy for the body and soul.

PGE National Stadium

Highlight • Monument

The most modern and largest facility of this type in Poland, as well as one of the symbols of Warsaw, built for the European Football Championships in 2012. It is located on the site of the historic Tenth Anniversary Stadium, which has hosted the most important sporting events since the mid-1950s: interstate matches of the Polish national football team, finals of the Polish Cup in football, the Warsaw Derby, the Peace Race, as well as large propaganda rallies. After the fall of the Polish People's Republic in 1989, the "Fair of Europe" - a gigantic marketplace - operated around the crown, and then also on the surrounding meadows.

The bridge is not popular with cyclists. The lack of infrastructure (paths), the technical requirement to ride on the roadway and not a narrow sidewalk, and the recent deaths of cyclists do not increase the popularity of the crossing among two-wheelers...

Usually "Poniatoszczak" - a bridge over the Vistula in Warsaw built in 1904-1914. The current name was given in April 1917. The first plans to build a bridge on the extension of Aleja Jerozolimska appeared in the 1870s. The bridge, designed by engineers Mieczysław Marszewski, Bronisław Plebiński and Wacław Paszkowski, was built in 1904-1914.

A corruption scandal occurred during the construction. Mieczysław Marszewski, who was in charge of the design and construction of the crossing, accepted bribes in the amount of about 100 thousand rubles in exchange for contracts awarded to companies.

Charles de Gaulle Monument

Highlight • Monument

The author of the statue is the French sculptor Jean Cardot, and the authors of the plinth and its circular surroundings are Andrzej Kiciński, Marcin Bednarczyk and Robert Jaworski (As you can see, as many as 3 were needed to design the plinth ;-) ). The bronze sculpture was cast in Bielsko-Biała by Marek Żebrowski from the original mold borrowed by the author. The monument was unveiled on May 15, 2005 by the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Michel Barnier.

The monument commemorates the president of France, Charles de Gaulle. The marching general is dressed in a military uniform and a kepi. The Warsaw statue is a copy of the monument unveiled in 2000 in Paris on the Champs-Élysées, but it is a bit taller and made of better material.
